Sweet Beginnings

Everyone knows that a happy marriage starts with good food, right? Oh wait, maybe that's just us...

The Rehearsal Dinner
We kicked off the wedding festivities with an 80s-themed, traditional multi-course Vietnamese/Chinese rehearsal dinner. That’s a lot of ideas to squeeze into one evening, but it came together…down to the karaoke and laser light show at the end.

J’s sis is amazing. And she surprised us with this awesome 80s/wedding-themed cake. Seriously the coolest cake EVER…

It was soooo good -- moist, fluffy white cake with a fresh strawberry filling. DROOL!

Layers: A Rubik's cube! What E wore in the 80s! A bride and groom Pac-Man! And a mixtape to top it all off! Eeeek!

The Big Day
For the tea ceremony, lots of delicious Vietnamese food – including the requisite whole roast pig.

For cocktail hour, we only sampled a tiny sip of our signature cocktail (lychee mojito -- yum!) and a nibble of the ahi tuna tartare on a wonton crisp (yum again!). Dinner itself was an Asian-themed buffet that, again, we barely tasted. We did enjoy the creamy Thai coconut soup and heard the beef and salads were good. If anyone has more photos or feedback, let us know...cuz it's all a blur to us!

But enough of this boring stuff -- we're focusing on dessert here, right? In addition to the wedding cake (chocolate/dulce de leche and white cake/mango mouse and pineapple, if you must know), E had a surprise for J -- a giant fresh fruit tart groom’s cake from Le Croissant Dore, J’s fave. It was the biggest fruit tart ever, and fed everyone for days.

Surprise!

A little bit of background on this tart -- J reeeeeeeally likes it. A lot. No celebration, milestone or random weeknight is complete without it.

After the wedding, we brought leftovers to the hotel -- and J digs in straight out of the box.

Dessert may be the end of a meal, but it's also the start of...the things that come after a meal. Like a marriage, in some cases. So here’s to sweet beginnings!
