Hamburger Mary's

It's not just any game of bingo...

It's Legendary Bingo every Wednesday night at Hamburger Mary's...where you can get paddled, pelted and roasted.

So entertaining, you practically don't need to win to have a good time!

Pizza Wars

We love our pizza...and how lucky are we to live within walking distance of two of the best pizza joints (we think) in town?

We tried to pick a fave, and it was really close.

Vito's Pizza
A perfect thin, chewy and super flavorful crust with quality toppings. Everything tastes incredibly fresh.

Joe's
Imported straight from NYC, and it's authenticity doesn't get lost along the way. We wouldn't be surprised if the chipped subway tiles and grubby bathroom had been flown in too.

Bottom: the authentically Sicilian-style crust

The verdict? Vito's, for its crust, amazing veggie pizza and LA roots. But that doesn't mean we'd ever turn down a slice of from Joe's!

Phogettable

Sometimes that craving for Vietnamese food hits like a ton of bricks and we need to eat it like NOW. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a good Vietnamese restaurant west of Chinatown. But with each new place that pops up, our hope is renewed.

We were totally excited when Unphogettable opened and even more excited we finally had the opportunity to check it out.

After we ordered, cucumber water and accessories promptly followed.

Then came our first entree. This "vegetarian vermicelli" be shady. There were two kinds of egg rolls in it, and we think one kind totally had pork inside. Either that, or it was made with really funky, meaty veggies. Anyway, aside from making us feel kind of guilty, the bun was ok and just lacked the punch of tons of fresh Vietnamese herbs (love you, tia to).

Of course, we also had to try the pho. Now, we're of the belief that no pho is quite as good as mom's pho, and, in a pinch, the next best thing is a greasy bowl from Pho 79. So our expectations for any other pho are pretty low.

And thank goodness, because this pho was so mediocre and so...phogettable. Despite the cute signage that tried to convince us otherwise.

Dancing Ourselves Clean

There's no better way to say goodbye to summer than an outdoor dance party in the misty white air, with Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. We'll leave the details to the experts, only to say it was an absolutely amazing show.

No visit to the Bowl is complete without a picnic, so we toasted with some white sangria, then dug into awesome sandwiches from the newly opened Fresh Bites in WeHo.

You can get "healthy" sides like grilled veggies, couscous, steamed spinach, etc.

For dessert, we indulged in a slice of Fresh Bites' coconut cake — delicious, and better than Magnolia Bakery's, even — but not as good as our requisite cream puffs from Beard Papa's (now available with a seasonal pumpkin filling)!

However, even with our double desserts, we didn't have the best treats in the house — not by a long shot. The award goes to our neighbor and his special cake...

...Because random strangers kept coming up to him and asking him if he had any more.
